Most AI tools respond the same way to every user. Walter’s AI Agent is different. Memories let you teach the AI Agent how you like to work so outputs start closer to the way you would write, review, and analyse. The goal is simple: your first pass should look closer to your final pass.

What are Memories?

Memories are saved preferences that the AI Agent applies every time. You set them once. The AI Agent carries them forward across matters, reviews, and drafts.

Animated demo showing a user typing “remember, I prefer to be asked clarifying questions one at a time instead of in batches” in chat. The AI saves the preference, zooms out to show the saved Memory, and the user clicks “Memory saved” to open the Manage Memories modal before it loops.

Memories are most valuable when they guide the shape of the output, not just the tone. A few examples from real usage:

  • Contract review starting point: Ask for a concise summary with next steps as the opening section of every review.

  • Client defaults: Use a specific indemnity clause for Client X in new drafts unless told otherwise.

  • Jurisdiction preferences: Prioritise Delaware references for Delaware entities, including definitions and citations.

  • Scope of review: Always consider exhibits and schedules when evaluating a contract.

  • Risk watchlist: Flag change of control provisions in employment agreements for a quick pass at risk.

These preferences change what the AI Agent produces on page one. Less rewriting. Clearer structure. Fewer missed standards.

When to create a Memory

Create a Memory when you find yourself repeating the same instruction at the start of a task or when you notice the same edits in every draft.

Examples

  • Start each contract review with a concise summary and next steps.

  • Use Client X’s indemnity language by default in drafts.

  • Prioritise Delaware precedents for Delaware entities.

  • Include exhibits and schedules in every contract review.

  • Give concise answers unless I ask for more detail.

  • Ask one clarifying question at a time.

  • When saving a new version to iManage, include a version comment.

Why this matters

  • Personal fit: Outputs and interactions reflect your standards and habits.

  • Faster path to quality: Fewer rewrites and corrections.

  • Consistency at scale: Preferences carry forward across matters and teams.

Try it

Pick one instruction you give often. Save it as a Memory and run your next task. See how much closer the first pass lands.
