Introducing the Walter AI Agent: Built for transactional lawyers
Sep 3, 2025
Legal teams everywhere are talking about AI, but the reality is that most tools built for general business contexts don’t work in the legal world. Microsoft Copilot, for example, struggles to deliver meaningful results for law firms. It isn’t built to understand complex legal documents, so formatting breaks, clauses are misinterpreted, and lawyers end up spending more time fixing errors than saving time. The challenge is clear: lawyers don’t want hype, they want AI that actually works.
We built the Walter AI Agent to solve that problem.
Want to see how it works in practice? In this short demo, our Co-Founder & CEO Ryan Wilson walks through why we built the Walter AI Agent, what makes it different from generic tools, and how it’s already transforming transactional workflows.
Why we built it
Our journey started with addressing frustration in a transactional legal practice. Managing securities, cap tables, and entity records across different platforms was inefficient and error-prone. We set out to fix it by building better software for law firms: cap table management, document automation, and entity management all in one place.
The Walter AI Agent builds directly on that foundation. It goes beyond making workflows faster, stepping in to handle the kinds of tasks lawyers and paralegals spend hours on, from retrieving precedents to blacklining agreements to drafting transaction documents.
What makes Walter different
Unlike generic AI, Walter’s AI Agent is designed with legal workflows in mind:
Embedded in Outlook: Use the context of your emails and attachments to draft documents, run blacklines, write responses and attach the right files without leaving your inbox..
Integrated with iManage: Retrieve, edit, and save documents directly within your DMS, using the same permissions you already have.
Edit with precision: Make targeted changes instead of rewriting entire documents. Formatting stays intact, context is preserved, and the output is accurate with no hallucinations.
Equity and entity management: Tied to your system of record, it can issue shares, update cap tables, and keep corporate records consistent across workflows.
Security & compliance: ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified, with zero data retention and no training on your data, so your security team can sign off with confidence.
We’re not here to replace lawyers’ expertise. Our AI Agent is here to take on the high-volume, detail-oriented work that bogs your team down.

Real-world impact
Our early partners in the Joint Innovation Program, including leading firms such as McCarthy Tétrault and Fasken (read more on our partnership with Fasken here), have already seen what Walter’s AI Agent can do. From handling an 80-page share purchase agreement to streamlining high-volume contract review, the response has been the same: this is the first time an AI agent is actually useful.
Adoption isn’t forced. Lawyers who try it keep coming back because it makes their work faster, cleaner, and more manageable.
Where we’re headed
This is just the beginning. In the months ahead, we’ll continue refining the AI Agent’s capabilities with the help of firms in our joint innovation program. From playbook-driven workflows to automated startup packages, we’re building toward a future where AI handles the repetitive tasks and lawyers focus on strategy, judgment, and client service.
